Risk warning: Trading forex and CFDs is high risk and can result in the loss of all your capital. Among brokers reviewed here, between 65.18% and 83.36% of retail investor accounts lose money — each broker’s own published figure appears on its review page. Prop firm evaluations are paid assessments, not investments, and most participants do not pass. Only risk money you can afford to lose. Nothing here is investment advice. Full risk disclosure.

Categories we cover

Five categories spanning 14 providers. We keep brokers, prop firms and software strictly separated, because they are different products with different risks and different protections.

Important distinction

A broker is not a prop firm

These are routinely conflated, including by sites that should know better. The difference determines what protections you have.

A broker holds your money and executes your trades in the live market. Regulated brokers segregate client funds, may offer negative balance protection, and in some jurisdictions give access to compensation schemes and an ombudsman.

A prop firm sells you a paid assessment of trading skill. You are not depositing investment capital, you are buying an evaluation. Accounts are typically simulated, the “funded” allocation is notional, and payouts depend on the firm remaining solvent and honouring its terms. Client money protections and compensation schemes generally do not apply.

Neither is inherently better. They are different arrangements, and the risk you are accepting differs completely. Every review here states which one you are looking at.

Risk warning. Contracts for difference (CFDs) and leveraged forex are complex instruments and carry a high risk of losing money rapidly due to leverage. Across EU national regulators, between 74% and 89% of retail investor accounts lose money trading these products. You should consider whether you understand how they work and whether you can afford to take the high risk of losing your money. Proprietary trading firm evaluations are paid assessments of trading skill, not investments or employment, and the majority of participants do not pass. Past performance is not indicative of future results.
